Internal Communications Manager

The role:

This role sits in the communications function of a sport and outdoor lifestyle brand and would suit an internal communicator with lots of creativity and a passion for creating compelling, engaging content. The hiring manager is particularly interested in candidates who are ready to take a step up from Exec level into their first ‘Manager’ position. 

The company operate a hybrid working model with three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) in their central London office. Benefits include a performance-based bonus and big discounts across their product range.  

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Senior Communications Manager and Head of Communications, set the strategic direction for internal communications and people engagement. 
  • Create and deliver innovative communications campaigns that drive engagement with the business’ strategy. 
  • Working closely with a network of contacts to deliver high-quality global and local internal events and rich media. 
  • Be the lead business partner to HR and Positive Business teams on sustainability, people-related campaigns and transformation/change projects, and how best to inform and inspire colleagues.
  • Play a central role in enhancing and refining compelling storytelling internally, developing a detailed editorial calendar to execute in collaboration with the team, some of which can be tailored for external comms. 
  • Create innovative, topical editorial series that land key focus areas for the business, from brand building to innovation, partnerships to people stories. 
  • Drive a human-led approach to language, tone and communications delivery that feels aligned to our culture. 
  • Partner with senior leaders and key stakeholders, offering best practice communications guidance and support in cascading business messaging. 
  • Manage internal channels with the team, ensuring it shares communications in the best way possible.
  • Provide continuous feedback and measurement to track progress against agreed objectives and milestones. 

 Experience: 

  • Excellent track record in internal communications, preferably in a global environment.
  • A brilliant writer with sound editorial judgment. Able to write and edit copy at speed, with strong attention to detail and the ability to distil complex messages into an easily understandable narrative. 
  • Ability to lead and own projects and campaigns, showing a natural bias for action.
  • Creative flair for campaigns and events, and the ability to spot opportunities to do things better.
  • Strategic thinking is a must.
  • Experience delivering change and transformation communications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and with confidence, managing many different stakeholders and competing priorities to maximum effect.
  • Comfortable working with senior leaders and Executive teams.
